Hauxley nature reserve

Following on from my previous blog it looks like Percy the Pelican will be loaned from the Great North Museum to Hauxley Visitor centre just South of Amble which is great news for the local area.  There will be some costs involved for transport, insurance and a new protective glass case but it looks like Percy is almost coming home!

The Hauxley Nature Reserve reopened to the public after a period of redevelopment earlier this year.  The new Wildlife Discovery centre and other new facilities allow visitors to walk right around the lake and find out more about the wildlife they encounter.  The hides provide an ideal spot to see lots of amazing bird species.  In addition, there are many unusual plant species including an Orchid within the grounds.  Part of the route is fully accessible to wheelchairs.  After your walk why not pop into the café for some well-earned tea and cake or buy some souvenirs from the gift shop.

Unfortunately, the reserve is not dog-friendly (apart from guide dogs).

Full details about the Nature Reserve are available on the website.
